UCL Computer Science has partnered with The AA to deliver a new work placement programme via the UCL Industry Exchange Network (UCL IXN) focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation. The initiative offers students the opportunity to contribute directly to The AA’s ongoing transformation while developing professional experience in industry.
Launched as a strategic collaboration, the programme sees postgraduate students from UCL embedded in key innovation projects at The AA over the summer. Working alongside experienced professionals, our students are applying their academic expertise to areas such as AI-driven operational workflows and emerging technology research.
We are delighted to be working with The AA on digital transformation using AI and are grateful to them for the support they are giving to our talented students working on their Master’s projects.
The initiative is designed to both challenge and support students as they explore how AI can drive tangible improvements in large-scale operational environments. One participant, Roham Zarchi - an Economics graduate currently pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science at UCL- said: “I’m excited to be working at The AA on real-life projects that should add value to the team. Not only am I interested in AI and computer science, but also in cars and the transition to electric vehicles, so this is an ideal placement.”
Nick Edwards, Chief Digital Officer at The AA, commented, “We are thrilled to partner with UCL, one of the world’s leading universities, to create meaningful opportunities for students to gain practical experience. This programme reflects our commitment to investing in future talent and building a pipeline of skilled professionals who are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow, whilst bringing new skills to The AA to drive innovation and improvements for our members.
This partnership reflects UCL Computer Science’s commitment to ensuring that students are equipped to apply their learning in high-impact, real-world settings, developing both their technical knowledge and professional capabilities in collaboration with leading organisations.
