  • Six UCL EEE academics celebrated in 2025/26 promotions round

UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering is delighted to announce that six members of the department have been successful in the university’s 2025/26 senior promotions round, with promotions taking effect from 1 October 2026.

Congratulations to Dr Adnan Mehonic, promoted to Professor of Nanoelectronics and Electronic Materials. A Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow, Adnan works on energy-efficient nanoelectronics and functional materials, with a focus on memristive devices that combine memory and computing for non-von Neumann, brain-inspired computing. He is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of UCL spinout IntrinSic Semiconductor Technology.

Congratulations also to four colleagues promoted to Associate Professor:

Dr Boli Chen, whose research addresses the control, optimisation and estimation of complex dynamical systems, with applications spanning intelligent transportation, electric energy systems and sensor networks. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and the European Journal of Control.

Dr Thomas Gilbert the department’s Departmental Tutor, whose expertise spans digital signal processing, power electronics and electrical power engineering, and who plays a leading role in strengthening the student voice within the department. Dr Gilbert is now an Associate Professor (Teaching).

Dr Stuart Holmes, a member of the Electronic Materials and Devices group, whose research centres on nanoscale and nanostructured semiconductor devices. He previously spent several years as a Senior Research Scientist at Toshiba Research Europe in Cambridge.

Dr Anna Maria Mandalari, Deputy Director of the UCL Institute of Communications and Connected Systems and Director of the SafeNetIoT Laboratory. Her research examines the security and privacy of Internet of Things devices, and she holds leading roles in international standardisation, including with ETSI and RIPE.

Congratulations too to Dr Dip Das, recently promoted to Senior Research Fellow. Dip’s research focuses on memristors and the development of semiconducting memory devices for next-generation computing hardware.

This is a wonderful achievement for all six academics, reflecting their outstanding contributions to research, teaching and the wider life of the department.
