The A-COMPS Class of 2025 has achieved an outstanding set of results, with every student securing a university place. Among the highest achievers, one student gained four As to study Mathematics at Warwick, while another achieved AAA with a Distinction in AEA Mathematics and will now study Computer Science at the University of Cambridge.
Nearly one in three students earned three A*s or higher, while 59% of the cohort will join Russell Group universities, including Cambridge, Warwick, UCL, Southampton and Queen Mary. These outcomes reflect the determination of the students and the scheme’s success in supporting them to reach ambitious goals.
This year’s cohort included students from Mossbourne Community Academy, Mulberry School for Girls, Newham Collegiate Sixth Form, and St Thomas the Apostle College.
The A-COMPs programme is designed to widen access to higher education for students from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds. It seeks to inspire the next generation of STEM students and researchers by fostering a belief that they have the right and ability to pursue ambitious academic and career goals. This year’s cohort is a clear example of this vision in action, with achievements that demonstrate both strong academic performance and the confidence to take on challenging pathways.
Through a combination of academic guidance and personal support, the programme equips students with the tools they need to succeed. This includes tailored one-to-one mentoring, hands-on work experience in research environments, engaging lectures from leading academics, and practical workshops on UCAS applications, personal statements, and student finance.
The impact of the scheme is also personal. One student reflected:
"I don’t often discuss my academic challenges in depth, so it was comforting to have someone who would listen and give me the confidence to overcome difficulties. For example, I was finding the statistics module of A-level Maths particularly challenging, but my mentor encouraged me to view it as a subject where perseverance pays off. Their guidance helped me not only improve but also begin to enjoy it."
The students’ exposure to the intersections of computing with art, healthcare, and other fields is reflected in the wide range of subject choices they have made. Popular pathways included Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Healthcare, Pharmacy, and Business.
Destinations included Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough, Computer Systems Engineering at Queen Mary, Accounting and Finance at Bath, and Pharmacy at UCL.
The Class of 2025 has set a new benchmark for achievement. This year’s results demonstrate how the A-COMPs programme is successfully meeting its goals by equipping students with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to excel. We are proud of every student’s success and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the years to come.
