Dr Helen Czerski
Dr Helen Czerski, (pictured above) currently an Associate Professor, has been promoted to Professor of the Environment and Society.
An oceanographer, physicist, broadcaster and award-winning author, Czerski is one of the UK’s leading science communicators. A passionate campaigner on environmental issues Czerski currently presenting BBC Radio 4’s ‘Rare Earth’. Her research focus is the physics of breaking waves and bubbles at the ocean surface.

Ms Ema Muk-Pavic
Associate Professor and Departmental Tutor (Postgraduate Taught courses) Ms Ema Muk-Pavic has also been promoted to Professor (Teaching). A naval architect and marine engineer by background, Muk-Pavic joined the department after a substantial international career in the maritime sector , including roles in commercial naval architecture, consultancy and research and development.

Dr Christian Klettner
Lecturer and Deputy Departmental Tutor Dr Christian Klettner has been promoted to Associate Professor (Teaching). A ‘homegrown’ mechanical engineering academic, Klettner teaches Thermodynamics and Fluid dynamics amongst other sub disciplines to the departments’ growing undergraduate cohorts.

Dr Claire Walsh
Dr Claire Walsh has been promoted to Principal Research Fellow. With her research focused on the 3D imaging of human physiology, Walsh serves as Director of the Human Organ Atlas Hub (HOAHub) and Co-director of the Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT) international research team. Using ‘the worlds brightest X-rays’, the HiP CT collaboration has produced imagery of human organs in unprecedent detail.

Dr Matheus Oliveira De Andrade
A special mention for UCL MechEng alumnus Dr Matheus Oliveira De Andrade, currently a Lecturer (teaching) in the UCL Centre for Engineering Education.
Dr de Andrade has taught mathematical modelling and analysis within the Faculty of Engineering’s Integrated Engineering Programme, while completing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, under the supervision of Professor of Ultrasonics, Nader Saffari.
Matheus has achieved a rare ‘double’; graduating as a Doctor of Philosophy and being promoted to Associate Professor (Teaching) in the same year.
