CNIE’s PhD student Maria Mourkou has published a research article in Reaction Chemistry & Engineering titled "A novel ultra-high vacuum diffusion setup to study Knudsen diffusion." This study introduces an innovative diffusion setup designed to investigate Knudsen diffusion—a key process relevant in mesoporous materials under low-pressure conditions. This fundamental work is expected to have significant implications in catalysis, material science, and chemical reaction engineering. The work was a collaborative effort between the vacuum technology expert Sander Baltussen and CNIE researchers including PhD student Maria Mourkou, former PhD student Dr. Haiyue Yu, instrument technician Nicholas Snead, research fellow Dr. Nidhi Kapil, and CNIE Director Prof. Marc-Olivier Coppens. Funding from EPSRC and from Synfuels China sponsoring this research is gratefully acknowledged.
The article is part of a special themed collection celebrating Prof. Klavs Jensen’s (MIT) 70th birthday, and can be downloaded open-access here: https://doi.org/10.1039/D4RE00267A.
