James Ford has joined the Engineering Foundation Year as the programme lead. James has worked in the UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE) for 10 years where he delivered various design and / or professional skills modules across all years of the civil engineering programmes. He has held various roles on the civil programme, as well as the 'engineering and architectural design' programme and the 'science and engineering for social change' programme, and was undergraduate admissions tutor for the department. Before UCL James was a practicing chartered civil engineer for nearly a decade working primarily for the Environment Agency but involved in a wide range of projects (including a small role in the development of the London Olympic park). He is closely involved with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Fawaz Saket has joined the programme as a Lecturer (Teaching). Fawaz has a PhD in mechanical engineering and his research involves electromechanical/mechatronic systems. He has publications in the area of engineering dynamics, with a focus on active magnetic bearings and rotor/bearing contact dynamics. He has held teaching roles at the University of Bath, the University of Liverpool International College and the University of Kent where he has taught and led various modules at different levels and across different engineering programmes. His work included the development and implementation of interdisciplinary project-based learning activities. Fawaz’s roles also involved teaching and supporting students from diverse backgrounds on engineering foundation year programmes.
