The focus of the day was in bringing the robotics community at UCL together to showcase the breadth and depth of research in progress including both academics and doctoral students. Over 90 attendees had an opportunity to network and explore possibilities for future collaboration across departments and faculties.
One of the key aims of the conference was to produce a capability map to highlight what research is being done by individual researchers, to understand in which sectors research is applied and to identify external partners across technologies and sectors. This will help the institute to track its strengths in robotics across UCL but also to identify opportunities for future research and external engagement. As Sarah Spurgeon emphasised, “Ours is a bottom-up approach in the first instance, to come together as an institute and articulate what we do before we develop the next stage in our plan for external engagement.”
