UCL staff and students can now use MATLAB’s official oourses as fully embedded Moodle Activities which link to Gradebook. Students which complete these courses will also obtain MathWorks-issued certificates that they can share on LinkedIn and social media, similar to a micro-credential. This initiative was led by Matheus Oliveira de Andrade and is now available to the whole of UCL.
Nearly 1,000 first yar students across eight UCL engineering departments undertake the Mathematical Modelling and Analysis I (MMA1) module, led by Matheus, every year. During this 10-week foundational course, students complete MATLAB Onramp in their first week to learn the basics of MATLAB®. As the course progresses, they complete autograded computational modelling activities via MATLAB Grader™, as well as participate in collaborative and hands-on mathematical modelling workshops.
Matheus says, “Incorporating MATLAB Onramp and MATLAB Grader has freed up significant classroom time that we now use to answer student questions, scaffold collaborative work, discuss practical engineering problems, and raise the overall quality of student-faculty engagement.”
MathWorks features the Integrated Engineering Programmes’ Mathematical Modelling & Analysis (MMAI) module on their website, which is available to read online.
All UCL staff and students have access to MathWorks.
