New Crook Committee for 2024

We're very pleased to announce the new members of The Crook Society, UCL Biochemical Engineering's undergraduate events committee, named after Professor Eric Crook, one of the early supporters of Biochemical Engineering research at UCL. He undertook some of the early scale-up studies on biological systems in the 1950s while working in the then-UCL Department of Biochemistry and collaborating with engineers in the then-UCL Department of Chemical Engineering. Crook was one of the original editors of ‘Biotechnology and Bioengineering’ which is still the leading journal in the field.

Meet the team

Rodyn Brown, Crook Society President

Before coming to UCL Biochemical Engineering, I was at the International School of Toulouse, where I took an IB diploma with Higher Level Chemistry, Biology and Business
Here I’m studying a Bioprocessing of New Medicines (Business & Management) BSc with a particular interest in Biotech Startups & sustainable investing.
I am looking forward to bringing new career events to the Crook Society with partner firms through sponsorships, as well as many more socials that include interactions through all courses and cohorts.

Ryan Koh, Vice President

I studied at Sevenoaks School in Kent, taking my International Baccalaureate and did higher level Biology, Chemistry and Chinese. I’m now studying the Bioprocessing of new Medicines (Business and Management) BSc here at UCL Biochemical Engineering. I am interested in Biotech, and how they can play into the venture capital and private equity markets.
In my role as Vice President of the Crook Society, I am looking forward to introducing the wealth of career opportunities that our courses provide us and getting to know people around the department better.

Rayaan Sarauni, Events Secretary

I studied chemistry, physics and mathematics for A level before taking up my degree at UCL, and am currently studying the Biochemical Engineering MEng. I am particularly interested in the way stem cells can aid us in identifying new treatments for diseases which we previously thought were incurable.
In my role as Events Secretary, I am looking forward to organising fun and entertaining events for the coming cohort

Brian Lee, General Secretary

Before coming to UCL I was in Beijing taking the International Baccalaureate with Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics as my higher-level studies, and now I’m studying a BEng in Biochemical Engineering. My main interest is in microbiology and biopharmaceuticals.
As General Secretary I am excited to meet new people and host events that can connect people from different year cohorts!

Edna Forkuo-Minka, Media Officer

I studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths at school in South London before going to university.
Here at UCL, I’m studying a four-year Biochemical Engineering MEng. My focus is on pharmaceuticals, especially drug delivery methods and the pharma-kinetics of drugs.
I am looking forward to planning events that will help biochemical engineers bond outside of lectures so that we're able to become a strong community and also ease the pressure of work through fun events!

Said Khusanov, Treasurer

Before coming to studying at UCL I completed my International Baccalaureate at Southbank International School
I’m studying Bioprocessing of New Medicines with Business and Management BSc with an interest in Personalised Medicine and AI in Healthcare 
As Treasurer, I am looking forward to organising cool events for the society and meeting new people!
