The two-day event hosted by London Southbank University saw teams compete with student-designed “repeatable vehicles” that are required to autonomously navigate a distance, reverse at a wall and stop at the centre of one or more bullseye targets as accurately as possible. Along with prizes for best design, poster and presentation, the regional final culminated in a head-to-head competition where the teams’ devices had to compete over a range of distances with maximum accuracy.
The department entered four teams into the event and brought home eight prizes, plus the coveted overall winners’ trophies in both the Foundation and Advanced classes. A UCL team also won a newly introduced ANSYS prize for the best simulation of a device. The winning teams will now progress to the National final of the competition to be held at the IMechE in October.
