Project team awarded “Highly Commended” certificates in IChemE Macnab-Lacey student competition

The Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL is extremely proud of our students: Guilherme Pizzaro Werner, Kalindi Hathi, Iman Ismaili, Yuhan Zhang, James Olley and Nikita Gusev, who worked together as a team (Interchemical Consulting, ICC) to put together an entry for the 2022 IChemE Macnab-Lacey award and were presented with Highly Commended certificates.

The team’s entry was based on their third-year capstone design project entitled: Sustainable ethanolamine production via an ethylene oxide intermediate in Odisha, India. Their entry combined work from different deliverables on the capstone design project, with an emphasis on key areas such as: sustainability, gate-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA), heat integration of the process and safety studies.

The IChemE remarked that “This year we received some very strong submissions for the Macnab-Lacey with one of the awards panel commenting that it was the best set of submissions they have seen”, this was no doubt, achieved through the hard work, creativity and innovation demonstrated by the students in their design project.
