On Wednesday 26th April, the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering (IHE) organised 'The Health Changers', a sold-out science showcase which saw IHE Impact Fellows present their research in a 5-minute jargon-free story to a general audience. Med Phys was well represented with our fantastic researchers talking about topics covering a wide range of healthcare engineering innovations, including robotic surgery, X-ray technologies, mathematical modelling of dementia, and placenta imaging. It was a great chance to showcase our skills in science communication, public speaking, and storytelling.
“Performing at the IHE Impact Fellows: Science Showcase was an amazing experience. The most exciting part for me was to take upon the challenge of discussing my research without the technical/scientific language that I use every day in my work. This experience and the lessons learned will be very helpful in developing public engagements events in the future”
Dr Evangelos Mazomenos, Medical Physics Impact Fellow
Huge congratulations to our Impact Fellows who participated; Carlos Navarrete-León, Evangelos Mazomenos, Charlotte Maughan Jones, Liam Collins-Jones, Alissa Parmenter and Danica Pacis. Also, our very own, Oriol Roche i Morgó, who was a phenomenal and charismatic host!
"To other researchers in academia, I highly recommend engaging in Impact programs like this. It's an excellent opportunity not only to develop skills in communication and public/policy/media engagement but also to reflect on and strengthen the impact of research beyond the university walls.”
