The annual Research Poster Competition is organised by UCL’s Doctoral School to encourage UCL graduate research students to communicate their research to others and prepare them for presenting their work at conferences.
The competition is split into seven ‘Themes’ and each student submits to one of these. Maria’s research poster was entered into ‘Theme 2: Advances in technology’, on the research topic “Leveraging Machine Learning to Predict the Autoconversion Rates from Satellite Data”.
On being recognised for her research excellency, Maria said:
It is a great honour for me to win this competition in my theme. My research demonstrates how technological advancements, in particular machine learning, can aid in predicting one of the key processes of precipitation formation for liquid clouds, which is essential for understanding cloud response to anthropogenic aerosols and, ultimately, to climate change.“It is a great honour for me to win this competition in my theme. The competition allows students to enter their poster in (cross) disciplinary research categories. The aim is to encourage students to think more broadly about how research fits in the wider world or how our research might innovatively impact on other research areas.
