It’s a great honour and privilege to be elected IChemE President but especially during its centenary.  I am very much looking forward to it – particularly to lead Chemical Engineers in helping delivering the Sustainable Development Goals and in embedding ethical thinking in all that we do.  I’m proud to represent UCL, which has been the bedrock of my career, in this role.

I am absolutely thrilled to see David become the next IChemE President, and for him to lead the Institution through parts of its centenary year in 2022. His year as President will also coincide with the centenary of our department in 2023, the first chemical engineering department in the UK. David is certainly qualified for the role, a chemical engineer for over 40 years, a global educational leader, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and more recently Scientific Vice-President of the European Federation of Chemical Engineers (EFCE). David has made a significant impact not only on IChemE but also on the department over the past 30 years, and most recently for 15 years as Pro-Vice-Provost of the UCL Doctoral School. On behalf of the department, I would like to congratulate David on this well-deserved appointment and I look forward to supporting him through his Presidency.
