Professor Sir Geoff Mulgan, Professor of Collective Intelligence, Public Policy and Social Innovation at UCL STEaPP has been appointed to the International Advisory Board of the European Parliament’s Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA). STOA acts as the European Parliament’s reference point for science-related advice, technology assessment, and scientific foresight, with its members appointed by nine parliamentary committees.
Based upon the needs expressed by the different parliamentary committees, STOA provides the parliamentary bodies with independent, high-quality and impartial scientific information and studies. This work advises on the promotion of new technologies and the best courses of action to take.
Additionally, Dr Chris Tyler, Associate Professor in Science Policy and Knowledge Infrastructure and Director of Research and Policy in UCL STEaPP, has been selected as a founding member of the Polaris Council which supports the US Government Accountability Office’s unit on Science and Technology Assessment and Anslysis (STAA). STAA advises the US Congress on emerging and important science and technology issues.
The Polaris Council has been established to deliver expert guidance to STAA’s work programme. Members of the Council use their specialist expertise and networks to help shape how the STAA initiates and conducts its technology assessment and foresight work. They also guide which topics and issues should be brought before the US Congress to enable a proactive and evidence-based approach to policymaking.
Dr Tyler was selected as a founding member of the council based on his extensive experience and expertise in science policy.

Katie is a Lecturer in Economic Geology. She leads the UCL Earth Resources Centre, where researchers and students work on Earth resources, including the rare elements needed for green technology.
