Sarah Spurgeon, Head of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Professor of Control Engineering, has been named an IEEE Fellow. She is being recognized “for contributions to variable structure control and estimation”.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership.
On being elevated to an IEEE Fellow, Sarah said:
I am incredibly honored to be elected an IEEE fellow joining such an esteemed group from the global community of electrical and electronic engineers. I look forward to continuing my work on the theory of variable structure systems and applying it to study problems from domains ranging from biology to robotics
IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.The IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity.
