NIRS
The Near Infrared Spectroscopy group is part of the Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory in the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering at University College London.
The group consists of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students with expertise in physics, engineering and mathematics. We are supported by a number of UKRI and charitable grants and industrial sponsorship. The work of our group is focused on the development and application of a wide range of near infrared spectroscopy instrumentation including single and multi channel differential, spatially resolved and phase resolved systems. These systems are designed to measure tissue oxygenation, haemodynamics and metabolism in a number of different organs although our current focus is predominantly on the brain and muscle. We have long standing collaborations with a range of clinical and life science groups, as well as Hamamatsu Photonics and Hitachi Medical.
