UCL Mechanical Engineering has state of the art facilities to help you make the most of your study with us.
- Thermofluids Laboratory
- Fluids Laboratory
- Bloomsbury Workshop
- Advanced Characterisation Laboratories for Materials & Manufacturing (ACLMM
Bloomsbury Laboratories
Our comprehensive lab facilities are at the core of both our students' education and our cutting-edge research.
Thermofluids Laboratory
Focused on researching the energy transition from fossil fuels and reducing harmful emissions.

Fluids Laboratory
Supports diverse research areas, from microfluidics to naval architecture, and provides teaching for UCL's Ocean Engineering minor.

Bloomsbury Workshop
Run by our skilled technicians, this workshop facilitates prototype development, fundamental to a wide range of mechanical engineering research.

Advanced Characterisation Laboratories for Materials & Manufacturing (ACLMM)
The ACLMM serves as an all-in-one facility for all things materials testing, characterisation and microscopy.
UCL Mechanical Engineering's Advanced Characterisation Laboratory for Materials & Manufacturing (ACLMM) brings together materials testing, materials characterisation and microscopy under one roof.

MechSpace
MechSpace is a student hub in London’s King’s Cross for designing and building practical projects. The facility spans six levels, with some 12,000 square feet of space and an array of well-equipped workshops a computer cluster and study spaces. A 15-minute walk from UCL's Bloomsbury Campus, this is where mechanical engineering students learn and practice practical engineering skills, and take advantage of a range of opportunities.
MechSpace is also home to the department's successful extracurricular student teams (UCL Racing), including Eco-Marathon, Formula Student, Mars Rover, Rocket, UAS and Human-Powered Submarine teams. The facility hosts a range of STEM outreach activities for younger students like 'F1 in Schools' and 'Girls on Track' and hosts Repair Cafés for both the UCL and wider communities.

MechSpace Repair Shop
A system where students, staff, or anyone at UCL and the wider community can bring things to MechSpace to have them repaired. Check out the Repair Shop online portal below to learn more about this system and submit your items for repair.

UCL East Laboratories
Our department is part of two new multidisciplinary research hubs at UCL East, Stratford in partnership with fellow departments
Advanced Propulsion Lab
The Advanced Propulsion Lab (APL) is a cutting-edge electrical system engineering centre for the development and characterisation of high-power and energy, zero-carbon propulsion systems for aerospace, aviation, marine, rail, automotive, and industrial applications.
The APL has cutting edge technology available for industry and external collaboration.
