Accessibility Statement for UCL IPAC

This is an accessibility statement from UCL IPAC. The elements included in this asessment are the IPAC documentation and the IPAC LTI when embedded into the Institutional VLEs, e.g. Moodle.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use these elements of the UCL IPAC. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Measures to support accessibility

As part of our commitment to ensure accessibility, UCL IPAC takes the following measures for:

• Appoint an accessibility officer and/or ombudsperson.
• Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. UCL IPAC has been assessed againast WCAG 2.1 level AA. The UCL IPAC is almost fully compliant at this level of accessibility standard, with some exceptions that are listed in the section titled “Limitations and alternatives”.

Additional accessibility considerations

We have made sure all UCL IPAC training videos have clear explanatory audio and appropriate captions so they can be accessible to all users.

Technical specifications

Accessibility of UCL IPAC relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

• HTML
• CSS

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of UCL IPAC , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for UCL IPAC:

1. Images in the IPAC documentation: Uploaded images may not have text alternatives cause we can not guaranteed the quality of the contributions. Images shown are in general screenshots of IPAC LTI and IPAC software, which description is explained in the text. We monitor user comments and repair issues as they are reported. Please email ipacsupport@ucl.ac.uk if you encounter an issue.

Assessment approach

UCL IPAC accessibility was assessed by the following approaches:

• Self-evaluation
• The accessibility was evaluated internally with the WAVE chrome extension tool (https://wave.webaim.org/refer). WAVE supports optimal accessibility and includes numerous accessibility tests and checks for compliance issues found in the Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 guidelines. All accessibility errors reported by the software were corrected. However, WAVE doesn't guarantee that the website is fully accessible, only a human expert can do that, which is why some accessibility issues at level AAA might have remained after our internal evaluation.
