Chip Design Summer School

About the programme

The Chip Design Summer School is a free, hands-on programme for Year 12 students, delivered by UCL’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in collaboration with the UK Semiconductor Centre.

Taking place at UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus from 13 to 22 July 2026 (09:30–17:00 each day), the programme allows students to explore chip design from the fundamentals through to practical implementation - culminating in working towards taping out their own chip.

Students will engage with UCL academics, industry experts and people working across the semiconductor sector, gaining knowledge and skills to support future study and career choices.

Chip design sits at the heart of technologies shaping the future, from artificial intelligence and clean energy to healthcare, climate forecasting and national security. This summer school offers a rare opportunity to explore one of the UK’s most important technology sectors first-hand. Learn more about this work at UCL by watching this video.

Eligibility: Current Year 12 students studying physics, computer science, engineering or a related qualification
