MRNA vaccines are one of the most crucial recent health developments and were critical in the pandemic crisis. Because they need to be stored cold or frozen, they are not viable for many parts of the developing world, but what if we could overcome this?

The Engineering Virtual Taster Lecture Series is an annual set of online presentations from researchers and academics at UCL Biochemical Engineering. It gives our academics and researchers a chance to present their work, explain what biochemical engineering is and the global challenges we're helping to overcome. We're looking forward to welcoming you and taking your questions.
Ferdinando Sereno was the UCL winner of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition where he presented his research on developing encapsulin. This is a container for the mRNA that can protect it until it enters the body. If Ferdinando’s work succeeds, he will be helping to solve one of the world's biggest challenges – how to give the developing world access to effective vaccines and save millions of lives. Join him for our online taster lecture when he will explore his research in more detail, his team's challenges and what his success could mean for global health.
