Getting Ahead in the Cloud(s): An Introduction to Digitisation in Upstream Bioprocessing
James Rutley and Mirthe van Wijk will join UCL Biochemical Engineering's Dr Bernice Wright for an introductory journey into the digitisation of upstream bioprocesses. In this webinar, they will provide an overview of some of the fundamentals of upstream bioprocessing, the challenges and potential for digital adoption, the wealth of tools available and some of their experiences applying these across the bioprocess industries.

Over the past 15 years James has developed, optimised and manufactured products from fragrances to antibodies to lab grown meat, working with some of the largest biotechnology organisations in the world along the way. He has also spent several of those years developing digital tools to support bioprocess applications, and most recently was applying his experience to the development and delivery of platform tooling to improve the manufacture and access to cell and gene therapies. He received his Engineering Doctorate from University College London, and has a passion for education and nurturing the next generation of biotechnology professionals.
Mirthe holds a strong foundation in the bioprocessing of advanced medicines, specialising in manufacturing stem cell and gene therapies. After completing both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at University College London, she entered the biotechnology industry with a focus on digital transformation to optimise manufacturing in the advanced therapy space. With a background that bridges science and commercialisation, Mirthe is passionate about advancing and enabling access to next-generation therapeutics.
