EPSRC Research and Partnership Hubs for a Healthy Society – UCL briefing and roundtable meeting
EPSRC have pre-announced the ‘Research and partnership hubs for a healthy society’ call.
The call invites proposals for large-scale multidisciplinary research hubs drawing on expertise across the EPSRC and health research community to support people to live healthier lives and prevent ill health. The hubs will be critical mass investments that form connections to the wider health technologies research and innovation ecosystem. The call has three priority challenge areas: prevention and population health; supporting people to manage their own health; and novel techniques for early diagnosis.
The outline call will open on 15 July 2025 and close on 21 October 2025. EPSRC will hold a webinar on the funding opportunity (date TBC). EPSRC are looking to fund multiple hubs of up to £12.5M each, and there is no limit on the number of bids that UCL can lead on (subject to confirmation upon publication of the outline call).
To support UCL’s response to the call, the Research Coordination Office and the Institute of Healthcare Engineering are convening an internal briefing and roundtable meeting for all interested UCL staff.
The meeting will be chaired by Professor Qasim Rafiq, Vice Dean (Health) for the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. It will include an overview of the call, a briefing on PPIE from Simon Watt, Public Engagement Manager for the UCL Hawkes Institute, and a briefing on partnership development from the UCL Translational Research Office. We will also hear from Professor Martina Micheletti, Co-Director of the EPSRC Future Vaccine Manufacturing Research Hub (Vax-Hub), who will share her advice on applying for a large Hub grant. The rest of the meeting will provide an opportunity for attendees to share and discuss ideas openly to support collaboration.
The meeting will take place in MS Teams, between 14:00 and 15:30 on Wednesday 6 August 2025.
