Taster Lecture: Powering Particle Manufacturing with Continuous Flow Reactors

Abstract:
In the last two decades, continuous flow synthesis has witnessed prolific growth in disciplines of chemistry, material science and biology. In order to utilize its full potential, handling solid particles in flow is considered as one of the significant barriers. The ability to handle solids involving reactions and engineering functional particles in crystallization and precipitation in a continuous flow framework offers a massive opportunity for scaled-up high throughput industrial manufacturing. Hence, flow reactors for particle technology have earned its place in chemical engineering research for reasons explained with several examples in this talk. The talk will give an overview of the development of novel methodologies on improving the feasibility of flow reactors as fouling free continuous particle handling platforms.

He then completed his PhD. in Chemical Engineering with a focus on the flow of solid particles in continuous flow reactors at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, India. After his PhD, he worked on electroporation of cells in continuous microfluidic systems as a postdoctoral fellow in Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He joined the University College London in 2020 as a postdoctoral research fellow. His research interests lie in continuous-flow synthesis of functional nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
