Tell us a bit about you
I’m currently a Master’s student in Emerging Digital Technologies at UCL Computer Science. I have a strong interest in machine learning, blockchain technology, and building real-world systems.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Ocean Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, and over time I realised my passion lay in computational problem-solving and technology, which led me to transition into computer science.
Outside academics, I enjoy gaming, exploring London, and constantly learning new technical and personal skills that bring me closer to my long-term career goals.
What attracted you to study Emerging Digital Technologies at UCL?
I was attracted to UCL’s Emerging Digital Technologies programme because it aligns closely with my interests in machine learning, algorithmic trading, and blockchain.
The programme’s flexibility and strong technical foundation made it possible for me to tailor my learning toward data-driven and financial applications.
UCL’s reputation as a top 10 university globally, combined with its location in London’s financial and tech hub, made it the ideal place to build both strong fundamentals and industry-relevant skills.
What inspired you to apply for the UCL Global Master’s scholarship?
As an international student, financing a postgraduate degree in the UK was one of my biggest concerns, as I would have needed to take out a sizeable education loan.
The UCL Global Master’s scholarship represented not just financial support, but a genuine commitment to making world-class education accessible to talented students from around the world.
I applied because it aligned perfectly with both my academic goals and my long-term career ambitions, and because it made studying at UCL a realistic and responsible decision for my family and me.
How did you feel when you found out you’d been selected?
I was initially placed on the waitlist, which made the process quite nerve-racking and uncertain. Although the scholarship team at UCL were very supportive and kind throughout, it was difficult not knowing whether I would be able to afford to accept my offer.
When I finally found out that I had been selected, I felt an incredible sense of relief and happiness, as it made my plans to study at UCL feel real and secure.
What part of your application do you think stood out the most?
I believe the part of my application that stood out the most was the clarity and honesty with which I explained my financial need and personal circumstances.
I was very transparent about the challenges I faced in funding a postgraduate degree abroad and how the scholarship would directly determine my ability to study at UCL.
I also tried to show how UCL’s commitment to making education accessible to talented students would have a meaningful and lasting impact on my academic and professional future.
What advice would you give to someone applying for this scholarship?
Be completely honest and transparent about your financial situation and the challenges you face in funding your postgraduate studies.
Clearly explain what this scholarship would realistically change for you, rather than just saying that it would be “helpful.”
Most importantly, communicate why studying at UCL truly matters to you and how this opportunity fits into your long-term academic and career goals.
Before your scholarship was confirmed, what were your biggest concerns?
My biggest concern was the size of the education loan I would need to take on and whether it was sensible to carry such a large financial burden at such an early stage in my career.
I was also worried that heavy debt would limit my career choices and reduce my flexibility when I returned to work after graduating. The uncertainty around affordability made it difficult to fully commit to my postgraduate plans.
What opportunities has the scholarship made possible?
The scholarship has allowed me to study at UCL with far less financial stress and anxiety about the future. It significantly reduced the size of the loan I needed to take, making repayments feel manageable rather than overwhelming.
Most importantly, it has given me a sense of security and confidence to focus fully on my studies and long-term career goals.
What are your plans for when you graduate?
After graduating, I hope to work in a high-impact technology or finance-focused role, either in the UK, elsewhere in Europe, or back in India.
My goal is to apply my training in computer science, machine learning, and emerging digital technologies to solve real-world problems and build meaningful products.
Wherever I end up, I want to return with a significantly stronger skill set and global experience that will shape the rest of my career
