Two frontier artificial intelligence startups founded by UCL researchers have raised a combined $1.6 billion in seed and early-stage financing, cementing London's position as a global centre for advanced AI research.

A UCL-led team will receive £19.5 million over five years to provide a powerful, high-speed computing resource for researchers across the UK in areas ranging from medicine to engineering to history.

UCL has announced a new collaboration with Tech Mahindra, a leading global provider of technology consulting and digital solutions to enterprises across industries, to advance joint research in generative AI, quantum computing and next generation digital technologies.

A UCL symposium brought together colleagues, collaborators and former students to reflect on Angela's research, mentorship and lasting influence.

Dr Atnafu Lambebo Tonja joins the UCL Centre for Artificial Intelligence to develop AI systems and evaluation methods for under-resourced languages, helping make language technologies more inclusive.

Undergraduate students presented industry-led projects spanning EdTech, humanitarian data science and AI-human systems at this year’s UCL Computer Science Student Showcase.

While criminal groups have been using LLMs to scale up cyber-attacks, AI could “help the defensive side in cybersecurity as well as the hackers”, said Professor Steven Murdoch (UCL Computer Science).

“But now you don’t have to be physically present to make someone’s life really miserable,” said associate professor Leonie Tanczer (UCL Computer Science) on abusers using technology to track victims.
