About Outreach at UCL Computer Science
The UCL Computer Science Schools Outreach programme gives students and teachers the chance to explore computer science in action.
Through visits, workshops, talks, and competitions, we introduce schools to areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality, human–computer interaction, medical imaging, and more. Our aim is to make computer science accessible, engaging, and relevant while supporting teachers with opportunities and resources to enrich learning.
A-COMPS mentoring programme
A-COMPS (Apply Competitively into STEM) is a UCL Computer Science mentoring scheme which supports students from disadvantaged or under-represented backgrounds enter higher education.
Rae Harbird Day
Rae Harbird Day celebrates the legacy of Rae’s life through a dedicated day of activities in subjects dear to her, such as promoting diversity, fostering education, and championing gender equality.

Summer school gives London students hands-on experience of computer science
Students explored AI, creative coding, data science, cybersecurity and more at the 2026 Computer Science Summer School, developing technical, creative and problem-solving skills.

Through Global Learning London’s Recycling Lab, undergraduates and Tower Hamlets pupils collaborated to turn recycling ideas into mini-games, building skills in sustainability and problem solving.

100% of students in UCL Computer Science mentoring scheme progress to university
Students in UCL’s A-COMPS (Apply Competitively into STEM) mentoring programme gained top results in 2025, with nearly a third achieving three A*s and many progressing to Russell Group universities.

Partnerships
British Computing Society
UCL Computer Science is collaborating with the British Computing Society, on the Levelling Up: Computer Science programme, which aims to increase participation in Computer Science among students who identify as women through mentoring, outreach and academic enrichment activities.

In2science
In2Science UK is an award winning charity which empowers students from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential and progress to STEM and research careers. UCL Computer Science partners with In2STEM to provide a summer school for about 15 students on the London programme.

Thinking Black
UCL Computer Science first partnered with Thinking Black in July 2023. This collaboration was established to address the underrepresentation of Black students in computer science and the tech industry. It involves initiatives such as a short course on Artificial Intelligence and Bias, as well as outreach programmes like on-campus bootcamps and workshops.
Thinking Black was founded in 2020 by UCL PhD student Hope Oloye and focuses on empowering young Black British students through education and skills development.
