LGBTQ+
At UCL Computer Science, our LGBTQ+ focus group was created to ensure the equal rights of LGBTQ+ people working and studying in the department.
We aim to improve the quality of life in working spaces, making Computer Science a safer and more informed department at UCL.
Our work focuses on:
- Ensuring that the Wellbeing office at UCL is a safe space for LGBTQ+ people. Following some serious complaints on the service received, we are working towards a more explicit way of choosing the right counselling service for LGBTQ+ students. This will be obtained by having the option of choosing an LGBTQ+ ally during the application process and selecting Counsellors with allyship training on the Wellbeing website.
- Providing up to date allyship training for the department. When on campus, trained staff will be identifiable with stickers on their office doors.
- Creating a LGBTQ+ safe space, where people can gather once a month in the form of a sharing circle. Individual mentoring could also be assigned.
- Raising awareness of the "+" in LGBTQ+
