Our work
Transport research plays a vital role in shaping how people and goods move safely, efficiently, and sustainably across cities, countries, and the globe. It addresses critical issues such as congestion, emissions, accessibility, urban design, and the future of mobility in an increasingly digital and connected world. By combining insights from engineering, planning, data science, and social sciences, transport research informs policies, improves infrastructure, and guides innovation in both public and private sectors.
At the forefront of this field, we are internationally recognised for our pioneering transport research. We conduct interdisciplinary research that tackles contemporary transport challenges with real-world impact. Areas of focus include sustainable transport systems, transport safety, autonomous vehicles, travel behaviour, and the role of transport in public health and social equity.
We collaborate closely with industry partners, government agencies, and international organisations to shape the future of mobility. Projects often involve advanced data analytics, simulation models, and experimental trials in live urban environments. UCL is also home to leading experts in transport policy, human factors, and systems engineering, ensuring a holistic approach to problem-solving.
