The mission of our department is to solve global challenges in the engineered environment through interdisciplinary collaboration, systems thinking, and people-oriented research and teaching. Our teaching and research are guided by four values:
Engineering for people
We work with and for people to bring positive change to human society and the natural environment. Our research agenda and teaching offer is designed to meet global challenges including the sustainable development goals.
Breaking boundaries
We solve problems by combining the natural and social sciences, working across focus areas of environmental engineering, structural engineering, fluid mechanics, infrastructure, transport, geotechnics and geomatics.
Empowering a diverse community
Our success is built on the vast diversity in expertise and backgrounds of our staff and students. We lead the sector and transform the profession with our high share of women professors and students.
Pioneering leadership
For two centuries, our department has hosted pioneers of scientific approaches to complex problems. Our world-leading living laboratories of PEARL and CAVE are at the cutting edge of science and education.
