RESILIENCE and VaxHub outreach activities

The Department of Biochemical Engineering participates in STEM outreach activities organised by the Va-Hub and RESILIENCE Centre of Excellence

The UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering is very proud to participate in STEM outreach activities that are led by the VaxHub and RESILIENCE CoE, who work as both independent entities and collaborative partners.

The mission of the VaxHub is to make the UK the global centre for bioprocess manufacture of next-generation vaccines using innovative technologies and strategic industrial partnerships, and by upskilling graduates to work within this sector of the pharmaceutical industry. They are established as trusted providers of high-quality outreach programmes to schools and colleges in London and Stevenage.

RESILIENCE is a new training initiative that was designed to close the skills gap for medicines manufacturing in the UK by providing students, graduates and industry professionals (continuing professional development) with technical laboratory courses, professional skills training, standard and enhanced membership models that include free and paid for educational materials and virtual reality hardware and software, as well as outreach opportunities for schools and individuals.

The VaxHub and RESILIENCE teams can offer schools long and short-term outreach projects focussed on bioprocess engineering, mammalian cell culture, and analytics for characterisation of cells and proteins. Through our collaboration, we can provide basic introductions to science communication and data analysis, as well as careers support that includes guidance from pharmaceutical industry professionals. One of our major collaborative contributions to further education is delivery of T-level work placements. Schools can contact us to learn more about the STEM outreach that we offer and to work with us to develop outreach programmes that align with their curricula.
