Women in Engineering
Engineers transform pure concepts of science into applications that can change the world. Being an engineer is rewarding and challenging – but less than 10% of those who study the subject are women
The UCL Women Engineers Society
The UCL Women Engineers Society, started by Dr Luiza Cintra Campos, aims to help more women advance in engineering. Student/associate membership is free, offering the chance to win sponsorship to attend external events.
Unless otherwise specified, events are open to members only – but those who want to join can do so at the start of any event.
What we do
We want to continue to increase the number of women studying engineering at UCL, creating a network of professional women and showing potential students what can be achieved in the field. We organise events including lectures, site visits and social gatherings, enabling members to meet academics and key figures within the engineering profession.
We offer those at school advice on studying and working in engineering through workshops and careers fairs, inviting them to meet us at UCL taster days, and provide information to older students wanting to study engineering at UCL.
The UCL Outreach Office funds a Women in Engineering taster course for Year 12 students, featuring inspiring lectures by women from a range of engineering disciplines along with practical activities in UCL’s engineering departments.
Women in Computer Science
Set up as a promotion and support network, Women in Computer Science offers information and advice about departmental strategies.
The organisation’s main roles include providing networking opportunities, organising events, giving career support and masterminding school outreach activities.
Athena SWAN
Five of the faculty’s departments have won Athena SWAN awards, recognising their commitment to advancing women's careers.
