Aims

To:

  1. Expand the normal medical paradigm for pain, drawing on the expertise of other disciplines and practices, recognising the debate around pain belongs to more groups than only medical professionals.
  2. Increase understanding of ways in which the arts and their methods can facilitate pain encounters and breakdown conventional hierarchies.
  3. Increase understanding of ways in which pain is seen and experienced in non English speaking cultural contexts.
  4. Explore the value of patient narrative to all aspects of medicine.
  5. Stimulate creative thinking around the challenges of encountering and communicating pain by integrating rigorous scientific presentations with creative practice based interventions.
  6. Collectively generate new knowledge and ways of disseminating to a wider audience.
