Research summary
Dr Martyna Michalska's research focuses on micro/nanofabrication of functional materials for energy- and healthcare-oriented applications. Her particular interest is in biomimetic materials as well as studying the interface between micro/nanostructures and biological systems.
She recieved her PhD in Physical sciences in the area of nanobiotechnology from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland, 2015), where she developed heavy metal-free quantum dots for bioimging and LEDs. In 2016, she joined the Argonne National Laboratory (USA) for a three-year postdoctoral appointment to work on bioinspired nanopatterns with antimicrobial properties. There, she transitioned from the bottom up to the top down fabrication routes.
She joined the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at University College London in 2019 to lead the fabrication of bioinspired nanostructures for smart windows and other multifunctional surfaces.
