UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering's Martin Ferianc participated in a global event, led by Hyundai.

Martin Ferianc, a third year PhD student, presented a poster at the Hyundai Vision Conference 2022, a global conference that hosts some of the most talented overseas students.
Martin’s poster, entitled ‘On the Effects of Quantisation on Model Uncertainty in Bayesian Neural Networks’, discussed a technique applicable to Bayesian neural networks which improves their hardware performance, for example on edge devices, without impairing their algorithmic qualities.
A total of 100 people from Hyundai Motor Company’s executives and staff from various backgrounds in North America and Europe participated in the event.
Martin was selected to present after a rigorous selection process, led by Hyundai Motor Company, where he was required to submit a letter of motivation, a research paper, and a master thesis.
The conference presented an excellent way for students to showcase their work to a range of academia and industry persons and discuss ways in which this gap can be bridged.
On being selected to present, Martin stated:
“It is great to see how academic background and research can be partnered with industrial application and the level of impact that it can have on a whole industry is simply stunning.
In addition, under the theme of experiencing Hyundai Motor’s technology, participants visited Hyundai Motor’s Namyang R&D Center to experience future new technologies such as Future Mobility Concept Model, Genesis Sound Architecture or witnessed the new Hydrogen Truck in virtual reality.
