Our modern computing systems consume far too much energy.
They are not sustainable platforms for the complex Artificial Intelligence applications increasingly a part of our everyday lives. We usually don’t see this, particularly in the case of cloud-based systems, as we are usually more interested in their functionality – how fast are they; how accurate; how many parallel operations per second?
In this lightning lecture (15 minutes talk, 15 minutes Q&A) we will present the need for more energy-efficient AI systems and some possible future technologies that will enable continuous development, especially where energy resources are limited (e.g. at the edge).
Lecture is open to all - including members of the public - with an interest in topics like climate change, sustainability et al.
