LGBTQI+ Equality at EEE

EEE welcomes and wants to make our LGBTQI+ students and staff feel comfortable and inclusive within their study and work environment. We are proud to be part of a diverse community

UCL has long been an advocate for equality to all LGBTQI+ students and staff who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, and other sexual minority.  EEE strives to encompass a safe place of work and study where individuals' opinions can be voiced and heard. For these reasons we have created a webpage where you can view resources, networks, and tools that will support you whilst employed or studying in the department.  To find out more, please see below.

If you can't find what you are looking for, please email edi@ee.ucl.ac.uk and a member of the EDI committee will respond. Please note that all information provided below can be found on the UCL LGBTQ+ Equality page.

Student Resources

We want all LGBTQI+ students to feel comfortable and supported in their place of study. As a Department, we encourage LGBTQI+ inclusion and want to nurture your full potential whilst enjoying all that UCL has to offer you. The resources below provide useful information on LGBTQI+ student development, how to join the society and network groups, how to report harassment and bullying, and for allies, LGBTQI+ equality educational resources.

UCL Careers
UCL Careers provide Career Advice for LGBTQI+ Students when finding your first job and it is always hard, regardless of what career path you take, however for LGBTQI+ students, in particular, there is added pressure to find the right employer. It is extremely important that your employer supports and acknowledges LGBTQI+ inclusion. Whether or not you decide to be openly out in your work environment is entirely up to you. However, you should always feel comfortable at work to completely be yourself, and not worry that being LGBTQI+ may hinder your daily life or career progression.

Stonewall Starting Out Guide
Stonewall starting out guide in association with Proud Employers is the only job site that caters exclusively for LGBTQI+ people and their allies. Part of Stonewall, Europe’s largest LGBT charity, aims to help candidates find roles with organisations committed to true diversity and inclusion for their employees.

Staff Development

Supporting trans staff
Information on how to support LGBTQI+ staff within the UCL community can be found on the LGBTQI+ support and guidance webpage. The information also includes how to support fellow Trans colleagues. All Trans employees are welcome within the UCL community and should be treated with dignity and respect. We value their contribution to the life of the university. The guide aims to support managers and colleagues of trans employees. Trans employees should also use it as an outline of UCL’s responsibilities to them. It includes general good practice for trans employees and guidance relating to those who undertake transition at work. You can also download the Supporting Trans Staff in the Workplace by clicking on the link above.
