Dear EEE Alumnus
Our Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at UCL boasts a distinguished history. It was the first department of Electrical Engineering in England and indeed our founding Head of Department, Sir Ambrose Fleming created the field of Electronics by his invention of the thermionic valve. Generations of alumni have gone on to make significant technological and societal impacts across the world. Our research and innovation work continues to be at the forefront internationally.
We hope you have fond memories of the time you spent in EEE at UCL. We are always keen to hear about the activities and achievements of our alumni and there are many ways to keep in touch with the Department including:
- Joining our departmental LinkedIn group.
- Signing up for our newsletter to get updates about news and events.
I am sure you will remember your own time in EEE fondly including the academics who inspired and guided you, the professional services team who supported your studies as well as the fellow students with whom you studied. EEE is all about people and we continue to nurture a thriving community focussed on mutual support and respect as well as sharing the excitement of our discipline. I am sure that you appreciate the challenges of supporting world-leading academics and outstanding facilities. Ensuring diversity of the student body where potential and excellence of the applicant rather than ability to self-fund is very important to us. If you feel able to make a gift in support of the on-going work of the Department, please do let me know. I can assure you that 100% of your gift will be used for the benefit of the Department. Alternatively, if you feel better able to contribute in other ways such as mentoring current students this will also be very helpful to us. The new UCL Alumni Online Community web platform and mobile app (for Android and Apple devices) is designed to help alumni connect not only with former students worldwide but also current students, advising on career pathways and skills for work. Alumni can join the UCL Alumni Online Community to volunteer to share their experience with our students.
I am committed to enhancing further the Department's contribution to both its students and to the wider world, celebrating and building on the major successes we have achieved over more than 125 years. This is a proud history in which you have played an important part and I very much hope that you will feel able to continue to be actively involved as part of our UCL EEE Community.
Sarah Spurgeon OBE, FREng
