Huw Parks

Background
Born and schooled in Bath after obtaining an all-round scholarship to Prior Park College for 6th form. Attended Cardiff University on an integrated masters program in chemistry and obtaining a first class honours. Also had a year abroad as part of the course, as a visiting scholar at Monash University, Melbourne; supervised by Associate Prof. Rico Tabor, the research project encompassed the interfacial ability of graphene oxide with selected additives such as surfactants and carbon quantum dots, for particular applications. Finally returning to Cardiff to complete my degree and conducting a masters project focused on the bulk characterisation of per-fluorinated micelles using small angle scattering techniques. Joined the EIL in October 2019.

Research Summary
Current research is based on spatial resolution of high nickel content cathode material degradation in Li-ion batteries in conjunction with the Faraday Institution and supervised by Dr. Rhodri Jervis. Using a variety of techniques such as x-ray diffraction and tomography, to map the inhomogeneities that contribute to the degradation phenomena.
