Dr Sinead Neal

After completing her undergraduate Psychology degree at UCL in 2009, Sinead worked for 2-years as a Teaching Assistant in an Inner London secondary school. Sinead returned to UCL in 2011 to complete a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology.

Following completion of the doctorate, Sinead worked for Southwark Local Authority as a main grade Educational Psychologist in a multi-agency team, where she received extensive training and experience in using dynamic assessment. In this role, Sinead developed an interest in the professional supervision and helped to develop the Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) intervention within the Local Authority. Sinead also published research focused on improving outcomes across secondary transition.

In 2016 Sinead joined the Educational Psychology Service in Royal Greenwich, where she has developed experience in using Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She has also recently taken up the role as an autism specialist within the team and continues to work to support the early identification of special educational needs within the Early Years.

Research interests: Supporting children with and without SEN across important life transitions (e.g. primary to secondary school), helping schools and professionals to increase their capacity to promote social, emotional and mental health outcomes, using strengths-based approaches to elicit children’s views and plan appropriate support.
