Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology Alumni

Dr Timothy Jones' profile (DECPsy 2008-2011)

Dr Tim Jones

What is your current role?
I am a Senior Educational Psychologist at Southwark Council. I am also starting as a seconded Professional & Academic Tutor at UCL in September!

What did you find particularly useful about the Doctorate in Educational & Child Psychology programme at UCL?
I had a brilliant three years on the UCL DECPsy course! For me, training as an educational psychologist was the realisation of a long-held ambition, and I still feel privileged to have done so at such a highly regarded institution. The support from all of the tutors was terrific, and it was definitely a hugely formative experience - I finished the three years not just with newfound knowledge and skills, but also with a more progressive and holistic outlook and mindset. The friendships made amongst my cohort are as strong today as they were while we were training, and I've no doubt that the bonds will last a lifetime.

How has doing the DECPsy at UCL developed your CPD / career?
Something that has certainly stayed with me is the opportunity that we had to learn from so many different individuals with a rich diversity of background and experience - both from within the tutor team and also from the myriad of 'visiting' speakers that came in to deliver training sessions. This has helped me to recognise just how wide the influence of educational psychology can be.
