Registration information for students in other departments.

Elective module portfolio

The following elective modules are open to students in other departments who have no prior knowledge of economics:

  • ECON0008: History of Economic Thought (Term 1);
  • ECON0011: Basic Microeconomic Concepts (Term 2);
  • ECON0044: An Introduction to Applied Economic Analysis (Term 1).

To register for one of the modules above, please refer to the UCL Module Catalogue, and then log on to PORTICO and select the module you wish to take.

ECON0044 and ECON0008 have no formal prerequisites but students should note that for ECON0011 some mathematics is involved so a pass at A-level (or equivalent) is advantageous.

Registration is not guaranteed but if you are successful in gaining a place, you will be allocated to a compulsory tutorial class which will appear in your online personal timetable.

Inter-departmental and joint-degree students

Inter-departmental and joint-degree students should refer to their programme requirements and seek initial advice from their parent department.  Further advice can be sought from the relevant joint-degree tutor in the Department of Economics.

Affiliate students

Affiliate students from other departments are advised to take a look at the Affiliate FAQs and add any module(s) from the list above to their PORTICO selection. If selecting ECON0011, please send a copy of your most recent transcript to economics.affiliates@ucl.ac.uk to show how you meet the prerequisites.
