What is a placement year?
A placement year, or a year industry is most similar to a graduate role, more than work experience or temping and usually takes place in between the second and final year of a student’s degree. It’s an opportunity for students to develop their skills but also offers, you the employer, a talented and skilled addition to your team or project. For UCL BSc Economics with a Placement Year student this must be a paid opportunity that complies with minimum wage legislation.

We believe it’s important to offer our students paid placements and as such we only advertise placements that comply with UK law: find out more about UK minimum wage rates.
How long does a student typically spend on a placement?
Students coming to the end of their second year on the placement degree can begin work after term three ends (mid-late June) and can continue for up to 12 months. The ‘assessed placement period’ runs for the academic year (September-June) only.
