UCL Department of Economics

What is Explore Econ?

Showcasing the best research by UCL Economics students.

Explore Econ is the annual undergraduate student research conference, organised by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics (CTaLE) in UCL's Department of Economics and now in its 8th year.

The conference showcases your economics research both in and outside the curriculum. We've been inspired by research-based education as well as you, our students who are proactive explorers and researchers who can learn economics by doing what professional economists do.

Like 2021, this conference will be blended, your best papers and posters will be showcased online and then a number will be shortlisted to give a short presentation during our conference in June. This fresh approach of a virtual conference allows for a creative showcase of your research and helps us to build a more inclusive and diverse learning community. The best papers will also have the opportunity to be submitted for publication in the Economic Tribune's newly established student Journal of Economics.

Prizes will be awarded in following categories:

  • Best Research Paper
  • Best Research Poster
  • Popular Vote - Paper
  • Popular Vote - Poster
  • EconFrame Photo Competition
  • First Year Challenge
  • Stone Center Prize
