At this event renowned global expert in the field of Trade Economics Douglas Lippoldt, (PhD and Professor) will take us through an overview of the significance of Brexit in the UK economy from a local regional and global Trade perspective. He will take us through his latest research on the specifics of what does Brexit entails for the United Kingdom, its trade and its economic prospects.

He will provide an analysis regarding short to medium-term growth and trade for the British and European economies in a pre and post Brexit environment.

Professor Fasani, will then project the implications the discussed may have in the British Economy, what the impact of immigration has been in the British Economy and other much interesting research he has been leading over the past several years.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion.

In order to encourage an open dialogue and sharing of ideas, the Conference is under the rule of Chatham House.

Douglas Lippoldt is Senior Trade Economist in the HSBC Global Research economics team, based in London. He joined HSBC in August 2014 coming from the OECD in Paris where he worked for 22 years in various roles as a senior economist. Prior to that, he served seven years as an international economist with the US Department of Labour in Washington, DC. Doug's central focus is on international trade issues. He has published extensively on trade and related aspects of economic development, labour market adjustment, innovation and intellectual property.

Doug holds a PhD in Economics from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), an MA in International Studies from the University of Denver, and a BA in International Studies from Washington College in Maryland, USA. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Cologne, Germany.

Professor Fasani, Francesco Fasani is a Reader at the School of Economics and Finance, Queen Mary - University of London. After completing his PhD in Economics at University College London in 2011, he worked as Affiliated Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE) and Researcher at the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) in Barcelona.

He is a Research Affiliate at CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research) and a Research Fellow at CReAM (Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration) and IZA (Institute for the Study of Labour; Bonn). His main research interests are in Labour Economics, Applied Micro-econometrics, the Economics of Migration and of Crime. His research has been published in leading economics journals such as the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of European Economic Association, Economic Journal, Journal of Development Economics and Industrial and Labour Relations Review.

He acted as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the European Commission.
