UCL co-launches the 2025 Econometric Society Summer School in Dynamic Structural Econometrics

6 March 2025

The UCL Department of Economics collaborates with expert colleagues and partners from across the academy on vital learning and networking experience for early stage researchers focused on econometrics.

The Dynamic Structural Econometrics (DSE) summer school equips early and mid-stage PhD students with tools and hands-on computational instruction in formulating, solving, and estimating dynamic structural econometric models, with particular focus on methods for incorporating learning and subjective beliefs in the models, and using the models for policy evaluation in a variety of empirical applications in fields such as development, labor, industrial organization, public economics, and macroeconomics. The course program will be available at the DSE website along with details on previous events.

The 2025 DSE summer school consists of five days of lectures and will run alongside the 2025 Dynamic Structural Econometrics conference “Expectations and Learning in Dynamic Structural Models”, which runs from July 3-4, 2025.  Both events will have a wide array of experts sharing their experience.  The current list of invited speakers and lecturers of the 2025 DSE summer school and conference includes:

• Victor Aguirregabiria (University of Toronto)
• Orazio Attanasio (Yale University)
• Stephane Bonhomme (University of Chicago)
• Jochem De Bresser (Tilburg University)
• Fedor Iskhakov (Australian National Uni)
• Arnaud Maurel (Duke University)
• Robert A. Miller (Carnegie Mellon University)
• Ariel Pakes (Harvard University)
• Aureo de Paula (University College London)
• John Rust (Georgetown University)
• Bertel Schjerning (Uni of Copenhagen)
• Michela Tincani (University College London)
• Yu Zheng (Queen Mary University)

Our own Prof Aureo de Paula, Prof Lars Nesheim and Prof Dennis Kristensen are part of the DSE 2025 organizing committee.  Speaking about the purpose and benefit of both events for researchers in the field, Dennis noted:

This events brings together leading researchers in the econometrics of dynamic structural modelling. As such it provides PhD students with a unique oppportunity to learn about the research frontier of this area as presented by renowned experts.

Every applicant must be a member of the Econometric Society at the time of application. To join the Society, visit the Society homepage. Interested students and presenters are invited to submit their applications via the DSE website: visit the DSE website and apply now.
