Doing Economics: Measuring Economic Inequality in Today's World

You'll work with real-world data on this course whilst exploring one of today's most topical issues.

Key Information 

  • Suited for: Undergraduate and postgraduate students studying a quantative subject, secondary school students at GCSE level or above or anyone who wants practical training in using statistical software to analyse data 
  • Requirements: Familiarity with basic mathematical operations, percentages, decimals, 2-D graphs. Basic Excel knowledge.
  • Duration: 4 weeks (4 hours per week)
  • Assessment: Quizzes (no formal assessment)

This course  hosted by FutureLearn will give you practical experience in working with real-world data, with applications to important policy issues in today’s society. Each week, you'll learn specific data handling skills in Excel and use these techniques to analyse data related to inequality, with appropriate readings to provide background information on the data you are working with. In addition you'll also learn how economic inequality has changed over time and how governments can address inequalities within society.
