Disability and Neurodiversity

We are committed to ensuring that disabled and neurodiverse students and staff are able to reach their full potential in their studies or careers. 

Up to 25% of people exhibit some form of neurodivergence, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, ADHD, and people with autism, including Asperger's syndrome. You can find out more about Neurodiversity at the Learning Disability Today's Beginner's Guide to Neurodiversity.

Resources for Staff

Comprehensive information and guidance on disabilities and accessibility at UCL can be found here. Enable@UCL is a staff network open to any disabled person working at UCL, as well as any non-disabled person with an interest in promoting disability equality at UCL. You can also join the Neurodivergent Staff Network if you identify as autistic or dyslexic, have Tourette Syndrome or ADHD, or identify in any other way as neurodivergent.

UCL recently launched ACT: Agreement of Consistent Treatment, a tool to record the reasonable adjustments and flexible working arrangements agreed between an employee and their line manager. Some employees may feel anxious raising requests for reasonable adjustments with their managers – it is hoped the ACT will ease that anxiety as it is evidence of UCL’s commitment to equality and inclusion. Likewise some managers may be anxious discussing issues that they feel are personal to the employee. The ACT provides a template to facilitate such discussions.

Student Disability Services support students with a range of long and short-term conditions and difficulties. General enquiries can be addressed via askUCL or +44 (0)20 7679 0100, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. You can also book an appointment with an advisor.

UCLU

The Disabled Students’ Officer is the UCLU contact person for disabled students. This office is currently held jonitly by Zohar Mendzelevski-Steinberg and Abi Smith.

Apart from representing the experiences of disabled students on campus the Disabled Students’ Officer holds monthly meetings in which you can talk about your experiences. You can contact Zohar or Abi directly at su-ds.officer@ucl.ac.uk and you can find information about their events here.
