Year One

Principles of Treatment Core Course (Orthodontics)
15 credits
Introduction to the principles of treatment for orthodontics. Basic skills required to enter the clinical environment.
Assessed through practical assessment.
Orthodontic Techniques and Clinical Skills I
30 credits
Diagnosis, treatment planning and orthodontic mechanics. Use of a range of orthodontic appliances. Practical and laboratory skills.
Assessed through practical assessment and written assessment
Orthodontic Techniques and Clinical Skills II
30 credits
Diagnosis, treatment planning and orthodontic mechanics. Use of a range of orthodontic appliances. Practical and laboratory skills
Assessed through practical assessment and written assessment
Orthodontic Techniques and Clinical Skills III
30 credits
Diagnosis, treatment planning and orthodontic mechanics. Use of a range of orthodontic appliances. Practical and laboratory skills.
Assessed through objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and written assessment.
Orthodontic Clinical Practice I
30 credits
Diagnosis, treatment planning and orthodontic mechanics
Assessed through case presentation and oral examination.
Clinical Science and Research Methods
15 credits
Completed by all taught masters students during their first term of study; delivered through a mixture of classroom-based teaching sessions and online learning. The module comprises two units: Clinical Sciences (CS) and Research Methods (RM) delivered through blocks of seminars and virtual lectures over the first term, culminating in a single, computer-based MCQ assessment (usually held in January).

Advanced Orthodontic Clinical Practice II

MClinDent in Orthodontics: Dissertation

Research project.
Assessed through dissertation and viva.

Year Three

Specialty Training and Advanced Training students only.
No credit-bearing modules.
Preparation for the MOrth examination.
