Eastman Dental Institute

Clinical Research

Focuses on the full spectrum of disorders of the head and neck region including disease of the oral mucosa, dentition, jawbones, salivary glands, cranial nerves, masticatory muscles and adjacent structures and organs. Examples include clinical trials of medical devices for the treatment of Sjogren’s syndrome and radiotherapy, novel diagnostics for oral cancer and novel medications for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.

The department includes the Eastman Clinical Investigation Centre (ECIC) and the UCL Eastman Biobank which collects redundant oral tissue and fluids donated by patients for use in ethically-approved research. The International Centre for Evidence-Based Oral Health and the Centre for Oral Health in Performance also sits within the department.
